New Purchase of the Latest Release
Your purchase of Transana goes directly towards funding program support and ongoing development of Transana. If we did not charge for Transana, we would not be able to continue to answer questions about the program or add new features to it.
Transana is available in three versions, the single-user version, the multi-user version, and the computer lab version.
Single-user Version
The single-user version of Transana is designed to allow individual researchers to do transcription and qualitative analysis of video and audio data on a single computer.
The single-user version of Transana costs $65 per user / computer. (Two users sharing one computer only need one copy. Two users on two computers need two copies, even if they're working on the same project.)
Multi-user Version
The multi-user version of Transana is designed to allow teams of researchers to work collaboratively on the analysis of video and audio data. Researchers using the multi-user version of Transana can share the same data, working on the analysis at the same time, and see each others' changes automatically in real time. This collaboration can occur over a distance using the internet.
The multi-user version of Transana costs $500 per project, regardless of the number of users involved. However, using multi-user Transana with one team does not entitle everyone on the team to use that copy of Transana-MU for other projects with different teams not related to the original project that made the purchase.
The multi-user version of Transana requires a server. Please read the Multi-user Installation Guide 2.40 to make sure you have adequate technical infrastructure and support before purchasing the multi-user version.
Computer Lab Version
The computer lab version of Transana is similar to the single-user version, but is designed for use in computer labs where personal data should not be stored on the lab computer. Users need either an external storage device (such as a USB hard drive) or a private network volume for storing their media files and their Transana database. The computer lab version prompts users for the location of their media files and their database files as Transana starts up, and no configuration data is saved.
The computer lab version of Transana, which costs $500, may be installed in a single computer lab room on up to 35 computers. If your lab has multiple locations or more than 35 computers, please purchase more than one copy of the computer lab version. For specific questions, please contact David Woods.
