Video Analysis Overview
Tranana provides several options for data analysis.
The following information describes video analysis capabilities.
- Use Transana to assist in the analysis of video data
in several ways.
- Employ Transana for meticulous review of selected
portions of a video.
- Using Transana for review is less tedious and difficult
than traditional video tape machines.
- Transana has built-in capabilities that facilitate
a detailed "drill-down" approach to video analysis that a
traditional video tape machine does not.

Examine Video Data using Deductive Analysis
Conduct a deductive analysis using the following
procedure.
- Select the analytically interesting portions of the
video (you will create as Clips).
- Create your clips and then organize them into theoretically-related
collections.
- Examine these collections for multiple examples of
the same phenomenon.
- Determine what categories you want to explore and
collect clips that apply to complete the process of deductive
analysis of your video data.

Assign Analytic Keywords using Inductive Analysis
Use Transana to assign analytic keywords to your
clips and then follow the procedure below.
- Use Transana's search capabilities to combine
and recombine your clips into new collections based on keyword search
results.
- Use Transana to take a diverse set of clips and perform
data-mining to explore what relationships might exist.
- Data mining is an information extraction activity
whose goal is to discover hidden facts contained in a data source
- Uncover patterns and relationships contained within
the video.
- Perform data mining by repeatedly slicing and dicing
and recombining the data until a pattern becomes obvious.
- Use Transana to perform searches:
- To discover meaning in your data you could not
see otherwise.
- To help you find the meaning within video data
more easily than with other analytic tools.
- Assign keywords, create searches based on keywords,
combine and recombine search results to perform data mining, and create
collections based on recombined search results to complete the process
of inductive analysis of your video data.

Design a Video Case
Use Transana to explore video for the purposes
of video case design.
- Take a large amount of video data and boil it down
to a coherent case.
- Use Transana to determine what parts of the video
are of interest to illustrate a particular point.
- Build a collection of clips that illustrate that point.
- Re-order the clips in your collection in a logical
order to clarify your case.
