Adding Keywords to Existing Clips

Add a Keyword to a Clip by doing the following:

Activity: You can download the video Demo.mpg (available on the Downloads page on the Transana website (http://www.transana.org) and store it on your hard drive in a location where you will be able to find it such as C:\Program Files\Transana 2\Sample\Demo.mpg if you are using Windows or in HOME/Movies/Sample/Demo.mpg if you are using Macintosh OS/X.

The sample video shows a second-grade class learning geometry through a quilt design and construction activity.

1. Expand the Keyword node fully.
2. Select the Keyword "Introduction" from the list of keywords.

Windows: In the Database tree, drag the keyword up to the Clip "Introduction" in the Symmetry collection

Macintosh and Windows: In the Database tree, right-click the keyword and select "copy" from the pop-up menu. You should also right-click the Clip "Introduction" under the Symmetry collection. Select "paste" from the menu that results.Transana will display a dialog box that asks you to confirm that you want to add the keyword. Click "Yes."

Note:
You can add Keywords to Clips in a Collection by pasting or dropping the Keyword on the Collection name. You can also add Keywords to Episodes and to all Episodes in a Series using "copy" and "paste" (or "drag" and "drop" in Windows) within the Database tab of the Data window. To view a Clip and its Transcript, add the Keyword "Definition" to the Clip "Introduction."

Windows:

  1. In the Database tree, double-click "Introduction" under Symmetry .
  2. In the Database tree, drag the Keyword "Definition" under Demonstration Group in the Keywords node.
  3. Drop the Keyword into the Transcript window.
Transana opens a dialog box that asks you to confirm if you want to add the Keyword. Click "Yes."

Macintosh and Windows: Look at the Keywords tab in the Data window. The Keywords tab provides a list of keywords associated with the Clip or Episode in the Transcript window. You can edit or delete Keywords from a Clip or an Episode with this list.

To explore the Keywords tab:

1. In the Data window, click the Keywords tab.
2. In the pop-up menu, right-click the Keyword "Quilt" and select "Edit."

Transana opens the Edit Keyword List dialog box, which looks like this:

3. Click "Cancel" to leave this dialog box because you aren't going to edit the clip's keywords right now.

To add a keyword to the Sample Video episode:


1. In the Database tree, right-click "Sample Video" under Sample in the Series node.
2. In the pop-up menu, select "Episode Properties."
3. In the dialog box that appears, click on "Demonstration Keywords group" in the Keyword Group.
4. In the field labeled Keyword, double-click "Symmetry" to add it to the Episode.

Note:
The quickest way to add a Keyword to a Clip is to use the Database tree in the Data window.You can't edit the properties of a clip that is currently loaded. You can add or delete Keywords for Episodes and Clips from the Properties dialog box associated with each Episode or Clip.
