Creating Collections from Clips

Activity: You can download the video Demo.mpg (available on the Downloads page on the Transana website (http://www.transana.org) and store it on your hard drive in a location where you will be able to find it such as C:\Program Files\Transana 2\Sample\Demo.mpg if you are using Windows or in HOME/Movies/Sample/Demo.mpg if you are using Macintosh OS/X.

The sample video shows a second-grade class learning geometry through a quilt design and construction activity.

To create a new collection with existing clips:

  1. In the Data window, right-click the Collections node.
  2. In the pop-up menu, select "Add Collection."
  3. In the field labeled Collection ID, type "Kids' Ideas About Symmetry."
  4. In the Owner field, enter your name or initials.
  5. In the default Keyword Group , select "Demonstration Keywords."
  6. In the Symmetry Collection, select the clip called "Houses."

Windows: Hold down Ctrl when you drop the Clip.
Macintosh: Click copy to move the Clip.

Note:
Use the above instructions to copy the clips "The Same" and "Folding" to the "Kids' Ideas About Symmetry" Collection.

Windows: Hold down Ctrl, then drag the clip into the "Kids' Ideas About Symmetry" Collection. Be sure to continue holding down Ctrl when you release the mouse button.

Macintosh and Windows : In the pop-up menu, right-click "Houses" and select "Copy." Then, right-click "Kids' Ideas About Symmetry" and select "Paste" from the pop-up menu.

Note:
Transana opens a dialog box that asks you to copy the clip. Click "Yes." If Transana asks if you want to move the clip, reply "No" and try again.

In the Database Tree, you can copy or move all the Clips in a Collection with "Cut/Copy" and "Paste."
