Reloading Videos

You can download the video Demo.mpg (available on the Downloads page on the Transana website (http://www.transana.org) and store it on your hard drive in a location where you will be able to find it such as C:\Program Files\Transana 2\Sample\Demo.mpg if you are using Windows or in HOME/Movies/Sample/Demo.mpg if you are using Macintosh OS/X.

The sample video shows a second-grade class learning geometry through a quilt design and construction activity.

When you are ready to return and reload your video, do the following:

Activity: (To reload the sample video, use the Data window)

  1. Locate the Transcript you want to work on.
  2. Click the "+" next to the Series node.
  3. Click the "+" next to the Series called Sample.
  4. Click the "+" next to the Episode called Sample Video.
  5. Double-click "Sample Transcript."

Note:
The basic unit of analysis in Transana is actually the Transcript. For example, one transcript may represent field notes, a second transcript could be a verbatim record of the portions that the principal investigator thinks are interesting, and a third, phoneme-based transcript may cover a different part of the video that a graduate student is analyzing. In this circumstance, you have one Episode, but Transana must know which of the three transcripts you want to work with. Thus, you load a video by selecting one of the associated transcripts.
