Exporting a database

If you create a database on your computer, all the database files remain on that computer. If you need to move the files to another computer, you must export the database to make sure that the files stay together. Exporting the database is the first step--it prepares your database for transfer to another computer.

You need to make sure that you have a disk that can hold all of the database files, so that you can transfer the files to another computer.

To export an entire Transana database for transfer to another computer:

1. Go to the Tools menu.

2. Select Export Database.

3. Name the data file. (This file should have an XML file extension.)

4. Select the disk where you want to save the database files.

5. Click Save. The database is now saved on your disk and can be transferred to another computer.

Note: You must now open Transana on the computer you want to transfer the files to and run the Import Database.
