Transana Windows and Set Up
When you first open Transana, you are prompted to name a database. Once
you have created a database, you can see the Transana interface. The Transana
interface is comprised of the following five components:
- Menu bar
- Video window
- Visualization windo
- Transcript window
- Data window
Menu bar
The menu bar provides basic Transana program controls.
Video window
The Video window displays the video you are analyzing. See About
the Video window.
Visualization window
The Visualization window displays a waveform of
the video in the Video window. See About
waveforms.
Transcript window
The Transcript window provides tools for transcribing the video in the
Video window. See Adding a transcript.
Data window
The Data window provides an overview of the structure of your data.
Data is arranged in a tree structure, with your database name at the
top. Each item under the database name is called a node. When you right-click
(Windows) or Control-click (Mac) on a node, Transana opens up a submenu
that provides options specific to that node. This tutorial refers to
the information in the Data window as the database tree. See About
the database tree and About
the Data window.
