About Clips
A clip is a segment of your transcript. Separate your transcripts
into clips so that you can focus your transcript into research-related
chunks of information. You will perform the bulk of your analytic work
on the clip level. Within the Transana interface, you can find each clip
you create by locating the clip icon
on the data window.
Creating a Clip
To create a clip
- Highlight the section of the transcript text you wish
to turn into a clip (see the figure below).

- Point to the highlighted text.
- Hold down your left mouse button.
- Drag the highlighted text to the collection you wish
to add the clip to on the data window (see the figure on the right).
- Release the left mouse button.
Note: You will see the "Add Clip" menu (see the figure below).
- In the "Clip ID" box, enter the title of
the clip you are adding to Transana.

In the "Title/Comment"
box, enter additional comments about your clip.
Note: This step is optional.

Clip Keywords
To add a keyword to a clip
- In the "Keyword Group" box, select the keyword
group you wish to work with.
- In the "Keyword" box, select the keyword
you wish to add to this clip.
- Click the add keyword icon
.
Note: The keyword appears in the "Clip Keywords" box.
To delete a keyword from a clip
- In the "Clip Keyword" box, select the keyword
you wish to delete.

Click the delete keyword icon
.
Note: The keyword no longer appears in the "Clip Keywords"
box.
